Last night in Denver, Michelle Obama gave a moving and heartfelt speech in the first major address at the Democratic National Convention. Seated in the convention stands were thousands of Democratic, Obama-Biden allies enthusiastically waiting to partake in the historical night of events, ranging from keynote speakers, tributes and more.
A Michelle Obama tribute video narrated by Obama's mother was shown to the boisterous crowd reflecting on Michelle's childhood growing up on the Southside of Chicago, the day she met Barack, and her decision to walk away from a prestigious law firm to help her community, before later being introduced by her older brother Craig Robinson.
The Senator's wife sought to connect with families across the nation, describing herself as a daughter, a sister, a wife and a mother, no different from many women. She addressed supporters waving signs reading "Michelle", stating that she and her husband feel an obligation to "fight for the world as it should be" to ensure the promise of a better life for their daughters and all children.
Barack Obama's wife's mission was to humanize her husband and persuade skeptical voters to look past his unusual name and exotic background, and to envision him as the next president.
The Obamas' two daughters joined their mother on stage after the speech, and spoke with their father via satellite as Stevie Wonder's "Isn't She Lovely" played in the background at the convention hall.
